Community Diary
  • A World Suicide Prevention Day vigil will be held in the Garden of Remembrance, Market Street, Ballaghaderreen on Wednesday, September 10th at 7.30pm. Light refreshments served after in the Community Resource Centre.
  • A meeting of Kilmurray Hall Committee will take place in the hall on Wednesday, September 10th at 9pm. All members are asked to attend with new members welcome.
  • The next meeting of Glinsk Community Council will take place on Wednesday, September 10th at 9pm. All members are invited to attend.
  • Williamstown Heritage Society are holding their AGM on Thursday, September 11th at 9pm.
  • Boyle Active Age meetings will resume in the Boyle Health Centre on Saturday, September 13th at 2.30pm. New members welcome.
  • A night of traditional music, song and dance will take place in the Coleman Music Centre, Gurteen on Saturday, September 13th at 9pm. For more information call 071 918 2599.
  • A fundraising dance in aid of Lourdes Invalid Fund and Cancer Care West will take place in Gannon’s of Creggs on Saturday, September 13th. Raffle and spots on the night. Admission optional.
  • The 2014 International Sheepdog Trials take place in Kilbegnet, Creggs from Friday, September 12th until Sunday, September 14th. For more in formation contact the event secretary on 087 611 6376.
  • The Strokestown Show will take place in Strokestown Park House Grounds on Saturday, September 13th and Sunday, September 14th.
  • The annual Gorthaganny Family Fun Day will take place at Erritt Lodge on Sunday, September 14th at 3pm. Admission €15 for family or €5 for adults. All welcome.
  • Kilronan Ramblers will hold a walk in memory of Fr. Sean Tynan on Sunday, September 14th assembling at Arigna Mining Museum at 10am. For more information call Margaret on 087 269 5821. Or Peter on 087 220 6763.
  • Ballinagare Ladies Club will resume monthly meetings on Monday, September 15th at 8pm. All members are asked to attend with new members welcome.
  • The Roscommon Cancer Support Service will host a ladies night event in Vita House, Abbey Street, Roscommon on Wednesday, September 17th from 7-10pm.
  • Ballaghaderreen Badminton Club will hold it’s AGM in Durkins on Wednesday, September 17th at 8pm. All parents, guardians and adult members of the club are asked to attend.
  • A meeting of Kilronan Parish pastoral Council will take place in the Parochial Hall, Keadue on Wednesday, September 17th at 8.30pm.
  • A coffee morning in aid of Mayo/Roscommon Hospice will take place in the Day Care Centre, Elphin on Thursday, September 18th from 10am to 12 noon.
  • Castleplunkett Development Association are hosting a coffee evening in aid of Mayo/Roscommon Hospice in Flanagan’s Pub, Castleplunkett on Thursday, September 18th from 7-9pm. All welcome.
  • As a part of Culture night, there will be a night of traditional music and danicng with local musicians and dancers in the Douglas Hyde Interpretive Centre, Portahard, Frenchpark on Friday, September 19th from 6-9pm. All welcome. For more information call 087 7823 751.
  • To celebrate Culture Night, the Hermit Collective are holding a show in Ballaghaderreen Library on Friday, September 19th from 7-9pm.
  • The Athleague branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann is hosting its annual Culture Night in the Angling Centre, Athleague on Friday, September 19th at 10pm. All musicians, singers, storytellers and dancers welcome. Raffle and spot prizes on the night.
  • Roscommon County Council in association with the Connaught Rangers is participating in a commemorative touring programme of talks and presentations on the Irish experience of World War I in King House, Boyle on Saturday, September 20th.
  • A Remembering Ciarán sponsored 5k fun walk/run and raffle will take place starting from Tibohine Community Centre on Saturday, September 20th at 1pm with registration at 11.30am. For more information call Sandra on 086 3924 624 or Claire on 087 194 5254.
  • A Folk for Hospice concert will take place in St. Joseph’s Hall, Boyle on Saturday, September 20th at 8.30pm. Tickets available at hospice shops and at the door on the night.
